"At the core of a piece I have to find an essential dramatic element, it's generally emotionally gritty, rarely pretty."

Dec 2016
Initially I studied Theatre Design, Birmingham Polytecnic (1977-79); gained a Post Grad Dip. & MA in History of Modern Art and Design, Falmouth School of Art (1991-94).
Whilst living in California I was lucky enough to be able to take advantage of working in the open studio system in Santa Barbara. I was mentored by the excellent artist Valori Fussell in drawing and painting, and by the talented and generous printmakers Siu and Don Zimmerman. Other influential tutors to which I'm wholly grateful include Colin Fraser Gray, Rick Stich and Tony Askew.

I was invited to be a member of Santa Barbara Printmakers Association in 2010.

Although most prints are made on my own press, since Oct 2016 I have occasionally used the superb facilities and expertise at the John Howard Studio in Penryn, Cornwall, and plan to continue doing so in the future.
Out of the last 20 years approx.14 have been spent living abroad: Sweden, China, USA, Belgium. Every place I've made a home has influenced my work in some way.
